This year I have spent an enormous amount of energy knitting BIG Blankets. I do love giving them as gifts......guaranteed smiles! And who doesn't like smiles? BUT for now, I'm setting the blankets aside (for the most part) to get back to my true knitting love, LACE.
My lace pashmina wrap is about three- quarters complete and it feels like its been on the needles forever, I actually started it back in March and anxious to finish and block it.
I had a rough start with this project, mainly because of the yarn. The yarn is a blend of tencel and alpaca, tencel is similar to a linen and combined with alpaca, it should block easily. What I didn't count on was the lack of stitch definition. With MUCH swatching, I finally came up with a needle size that gave me the definition I was looking for..... a US#2.5 (3mm).
This lace pattern (currently has no name) has a beautiful and extended border (not shown), I'm just a few inches from starting the ending extended border.
This project does take some concentration, but I'm still able to work on it at Knit Club or with family. I have even taken it to the pool. The only time I can't work on it is during road trips in the car or train. A bump in the road or a sway on the tracks could lead to disaster, literally. Losing stitches because of a bump could set me back a day in repair or tinking back.....totally not worth it!
On road trips, I will work on my lacey and mostly reversible baby blanket. Shown below, on the needles and not blocked.
I'm making the above blanket twice, once as a sample and the other as a gift.....but I have until October before the gift is actually needed. This makes this the perfect project to bring for road trips, no tricky stitches, easy to work with yarn and the pattern is easy to memorize. So there you go.....
Lace Interrupted....once my lace with no-name is completed. I'm looking forward to getting another lace project on the needles post haste. I have a couple designs I want to swatch, but have resisted thus far, trying to stay focused.....never easy.
Until next time....
Happy Knitting!
