Typically when I travel, I over-pack the number of knitting projects that I will work on/complete during my travels. (To be perfectly honest, I over-pack in general so its not such a departure). But really its turned into a joke with my travel companions, meaning I get a bit of ribbing (pun intended)....some of these projects usually never make it out of the suitcase, to see light of day. Traveling with visions of knitting grandeur is my motto....all for the "just in case" or "what if" I finish the project .....
For this trip I packed 5 projects (ABSURD, right?):
- a new Chain Link Lace Scarf Design (working name only) - two projects (one in Wollemeise and other in Miss Babs) but with different edge trimmings, fringed and beaded.
- a new to me laceweight tencel blend yarn from Anzula, with a design idea/plan
- an abandoned Bubbles Wrap project from at least a year ago
- and lastly, an incomplete Meridian Lace Wrap project from a couple of years ago
Well thank goodness I did. Updates below with a few pictures....
- I was further along than I had realized on the Wollemeise Chain Link project and finished it before I left the airport.
- The second Chain Link project is nearly completed, except that I didn't pack the finishing beads or fine crochet hook to complete the project.
- My new lacey wrap design using Anzula, gave me a FIT. Came to the conclusion that a smaller needle was needed and since there were more projects in the bag, decided to rework this when I get home.
- The Bubbles Wrap is a fun project that goes quickly (big needles) and finished it much faster than anticipated. YAY! A new wrap/scarf to wear when I get home. SWEET!
- Now working on the Meridian Lace Wrap which I'm knitting it in Malabrigo Alpaca Lace, color Teal Feathers. Its so soft and cuddly. The pattern is an easy repeat, that after enough repetitions, its good mindless knitting, perfect for traveling.
So after years and years of taking LOTS of heat...and I do mean LOTS for over-packing knitting projects, it has finally paid off. Glad I had each and everyone of them, well most of them.
Should have done a better job with the 5 P's - Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance.
Bringing beads, proper tools, additional needle sizes and maybe checking how far along I was on the project would have rendered some better results.
But I'm calling No Harm, No Foul, since I had extra projects. How's that for justification!!!
Hope your having a Well Knit January.
More later......
And as always,
Happy Knitting!
