There are only 7 weeks or 48 days till Christmas! YIKES!
Have you started your gift giving knitting yet? If you answered NO, you are not alone...me either, until now. Double YIKES! I must confess, I have never started this late and I'm a little stressed out about it.
First step.... MAKE A LIST.
Second....select patterns for each project and purchase the yarn and needles needed for each project.
Thirdly....determine the order of your projects.....I start with a the bigger or more complicated projects first, leaving easier projects for the crunch-time late night knitting. The other thing you may want to consider is if any of the projects need to be mailed....this could definitely alter the order.
My List
- a sweater,
- 2 afghans,
- 4 pairs of socks,
- 2 scarves and
- a hat.
My List, which is pared down due to the time constraint still seems a little unrealistic (even to me), especially with the 7 week/48 day deadline. This list is totally subjected to edits (2 afghans? really) and possible or rather probable deletions closer to the deadline. The good news is nothing has to be mailed this year. You know what this means......knitting into the wee hours on December 24th.....I actually dislike this kind of pressure, but it's outweighed by the desire to share knitted gifts......good times, can't wait!
GET STARTED....
I've started with the sweater, its not the biggest project, but its the one that requires a little more attention and alot of variable row counting. So the first project is for my little man, Xander.....who won't see it as a gift at all, right? What kid likes to get clothes as a Christmas gift. But it will make for great holiday photos.
So a child's sweater in DK weight yarn and why I thought knitting an all over cabled sweater was a good idea, I will never know. I couldn't resist the MillaMia Kiki Jumper. Its a great design and will make for awesome photographs and long time memories. The Kiki Jumper is featured in MillaMia's Wonderland Pattern Book.
I am knitting it with the MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino yarn in Lipstick Red with a US# 2 & 3. Naturally Soft is 100% Superwash Merino Wool that is a high twist yarn, giving it incredible stitch definition and complimented with easy care. MillaMia Naturally Soft is distributed by Classic Elite Yarn Company and can be found in the US.
Since I/we are down to the wire and My List seemingly "blue-sky", its necessary for me to take my knitting with me everywhere. Working on a cabled sweater or any project that requires a lot of counting or that is large and cumbersome on-the-go is not only impractical but could lead to making mistakes, which we don't have that kind of TIME.
This is why I always start one of the simpler projects that require less thought and easy to keep in my handbag......always ready to knit a few stitches, no matter where I am. My on-the-go project right now is to start the scarf, I have selected the Changers Scarf in a worsted weight , 100% Merino Wool, colorful hand-dye from Three Irish Girls Yarns.
The Changers Scarf is reversible and looks great in any yarn.
Wishing you all the best on ramping up your gift knitting..... Must knit.....
More later.
Happy Knitting!
