it's finished

There is nothing like finishing a BIG project. The sense of accomplishment is huge and doing the "happy dance" is not only justified, but required. However, finishing some of those older large and looming projects takes pure fortitude.

For me.....  it's always easier to start a new project.  There is something about casting on that gives the feeling of spring, both fresh and new. Sounds overly dramatic..... but its true.

Completing projects often follows suit BUT other times for a whole host of reasons, explanations, excuses.....you name it....projects will find itself to the dark recesses of a closet.

Three years ago, (I really can't believe it was 3 years, I honestly thought it was only 2 until I checked back to my notes, YIKES!)...... Three years ago, I eagerly started a crochet vintage-style ripple blanket.  I chose colors based on kitchen paint colors that joined our family room.  I passionately worked on it throughout the chilly winter months, it kept my legs warm on snowy days when it was just too cold to venture outside.

I got to within 14 rows of finishing......that's right, just 14 rows .....and the weather turned warmer and it was just too big and too hot to work on.  I vowed that I would finish it the following Fall and my blanket made its first journey into the closet.

Do you hear the excuses......however legit......still excuses, reasons, rationalizing.......

In the meantime, I moved and the color scheme of my new home changed. Changed without any regard to the unfinished blanket that found itself into a dark corner of a closet.  

The new color scheme, now introduced a whole new set of rationalizations and more excuses. It had no place to go, I didn't know anyone who would be interested in my crazy color choices.  So it took no priority and found its way further back into the deepest and darkest corner of the closet.

Recently, while cleaning out said closet, I stumbled upon my nearly finished blanket.  The weather was a little cooler and I DID IT.....took the plunge and finished it!

And while, I was finishing it up....a friend of mine saw it and told me how much she liked it. Kismet! Guess who's getting a pretty blanket for Christmas?

I have to say I do love finishing a project even more than starting a new one. Its gratifying, rewarding, satisfying and totally fulfilling.  Its just choke-full of the good stuff.
