Nana's Favorite Complexion Washcloth is best made with a hemp, flax or linen yarn. The slightly rough texture serves to smooth yours, revving up circulation and sloughing off dull skin to leave you glowing.
A textured washcloth improves circulation and skin tone for more youthful-looking skin.
I really like Lanaknits Hemp for Knitting Allhemp6. One hank can make 2 washcloths if you use the Half Half method (described below). I get about 3 1/2 10" wash cloths out of two hanks.
Nana's Favorite Washcloth Pattern is worked from corner to corner. Increasing for the first half of the pattern and decreasing for the second half of the pattern.
Size: 10 Inch (26cm) Wash Cloth
Materials: Hemp for Knitting Allhemp 6
Needles: US# 5 (3.75 mm) I prefer using the Knitters Pride Karbonz Straight needles for this project
Using long-tail method, cast on 4 stitches.
Knit 1 row.
Increase row: K2, yo, knit to end of row. Repeat this pattern for each row until you have 64 stitches on your needle or have used a little less than half of your yarn.
Decrease row: K1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit to end. Repeat this pattern for each row until you have 4 stitches remaining.
Bind off the 4 stitches and weave in ends.
What is the HALF HALF Method?
Split the Allhemp6 hank in half to divide yarn for 2 washcloths. Then divide the half hanks into half again. One half is used for the increase side and one hank is used for the decrease side of the washcloth. OR an insurance policy that you have don't run out of yarn before the end of the cloth.
The Half Half method will produce a slightly smaller washcloth.
If you're like me after using my first Nana's Favorite Complexion Washcloth. I wanted more.... at least one for every day of the week.
I also think these make nice hostess gift when combined with a special bar of soap (like olive oil, glycerin or almond milk soap), bunddled with raffia or twine.
My favorite places to find fun soaps are at the Farmers Market, an old fashion apothecary store like Merz's in Chicago or there is always Lush.

I've been thinking about making these for each guest for our Easter Brunch..... I bet I can find some egg or baby-chick shaped soaps....too cute! As for the kids, I will probably sustitute a pure cotton for the hemp.
