Parties are fun.
Its a great excuse to get something new to wear or sprucing up an oldy but goody with some new accessories, jewlery and shoes. For me, I decides to make a new lacey wrap to go with an existing outfit. The outfit is navy blue, a departure from my typical black or gray, and needs a pop.
As always, my go-to piece is a lacey wrap, I love them....surprised? I didn't think so.....
I have lots of lace weight yarn, so I was sure this would be a easy peasy, no problem. And I was right, I found several options that could work nicely.
Then...... I went to the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival....
I ran into Kimber Baldwin of Fiber Optic Yarns, a long time favorite of mine and found a gorgeous Raspberry color that looks like it has hints of navy running through it....perfect! The lace yarn itself is a 100% Superwash Merino laceweight that has the same feel as the Tosh Lace, another favorite but sadly has been discontinued. Now perfect on two counts.....doubly perfect!
Warning....my Fiber Optic Yarn photo, really doesn't do the color justice, its much better in person.
About Superwash Merino laceweight yarn, .......it has a crisper feel and in the past I was hesitant to use it because I was afraid it wouldn't hold the block well. It does block nicely and the yarn crispness pronounces the lace design. My first encounter was with my Carlisle Lace pattern, shown below.
I have been working on my party piece for several weeks and it is nearly done. Leaving me plenty of time for blocking. However, I did a mini faux block to give you a little sneak peek of a portion of the pattern.
I am looking forward to a the official blocking, to see the piece really opened up.....Stay tuned.....hope to have it completed in the next couple of days.
Some of my best buds asked me, "don't you have a gazillion other wraps you could wear?"
And the answer is a resounding YES. But honestly, what's the fun in that...... Here are some other great party options or in my case...anytime options....I wear them everywhere.
There are plenty of other options available at Knitting Buzz Designs available on Ravelry or LoveKnitting. And the Carlisle Lace Wrap (shown above) would also work nicely too.
