Typically, I will knit simpler patterns for my gifts. Quick knits like, hats, scarves and mittens, allowing me to knit lots of gifts, in a short amount of time. I usually try to squeeze in a couple of pair of socks, which are not quick, but seem to be coveted by the recipient.....and makes me feel good too. What knitter doesn't love getting the appreciation for a pair of hand knit socks.
This year I did something different. I knit a family of fairisle Christmas stockings.
These took a little more time, but I'm pleased how they turned out. The patterns for these stockings are available on Ravelry by Cindy Steinberg. Cindy really did a beautiful job on these designs.
I used Cascade 220 in colors: Natural 8010, Red 2413, Shamrock 9486 and a touch of Black.
I steam blocked the stockings which evened up the stitches and gave the handknit stockings a more finished look.
I did take a bit of "poetic license" by tweaking the colors or switching some of the patterns around. But all in all Cindy's designs are beautiful and well written.
